The Green Purchasing & Green Public Procurement Starter Kit now
completed!

It has been tested at workshops and online, and now the Green Purchasing
& Green Public Procurement Starter Kit is completed!

The kit is an interactive web and CD-ROM based package which provides a
wealth of information in interactive modules for:
1. Awareness
2. Training
3. Step-by-step interactive 'implementation assistant'
4. Online library for reference material

The kit is developed for a wide range of users including:
- Purchasing managers in business organisations who want to implement a
Green Purchasing programme
- Public Procurement officers who want to launch a Green Public
Procurement programme
- Environmental, supply chain consultants and trainers who help
companies in implementing Green Purchasing programmes
- Relevant government agencies and policy makers
- Researchers and students
- Any other interested parties

The Green Purchasing and Green Public Procurement Starter Kit has been
jointly developed by IGPN and GPN India. The kit can be viewed online
and also available as downloadable zip files and on CD-ROM.

US and the European Union renew ENERGY STAR Agreement

The US and the European Community have agreed to renew their agreement
on the energy efficiency labeling of office equipment products using
EPA's ENERGY STAR.

World Climate Change Concerts Planned

A series of worldwide concerts are being planned for this summer to
highlight the threat of global warming. The eight Live 8-style gigs were
announced by former US Vice President Al Gore, and Johannesburg, London,
Shanghai and Sydney are among the host cities. Three other concerts will
take place in the US, Brazil and Japan with the cities still to be
decided. There will also be a concert in Antarctica.

Defra (UK Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs) has

White goods industry ditches voluntary accords

New energy efficiency standards for large household appliances should be
set through binding legislation and not voluntary agreements, EU white
goods industry association Ceced declared.

Japan's former Prime Minister becomes an honorary advisor to IGPN

Japan's former Prime Minister, Mr Tomiichi Murayama, has agreed to
become an honorary advisor to IGPN.

Ontario Government to Ban Incandescent Lights by 2012

The government of Ontario(Canada) announced its plan to ban the sale of
inefficient light bulbs by 2012.

Canadian government acknowledges the country will not meet its Kyoto
Protocol commitment

The Kyoto treaty committed Canada to reducing emissions by 6% from 1990
levels by the period 2008-2012 but emissions are currently about 30%
above the1990 figure. The Canadian government's new target is to cut
emissions by20% between now and 2020, and the government believes the
strategy may reduce Canada's economic growth by 0.5% but that striving
to meet the Kyoto target would be ruinous.

IPPC

"The world has the technological and financial means to fight climate
change, but must act now to make a difference" - this is the conclusion
of the latest report from the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change (IPCC), launched in Bangkok, Thailand on the 4 May.

U.K. Consumers Place a Premium on Sustainability

Concern for the environment has prompted one of the most complete and
speedy revolutions in consumer attitudes ever seen, according to new
research, although most people surveyed had an incomplete grasp of what
exactly makes a company green.

Toronto Mayor Makes Zero Footprint Pledge at C40 Summit

At the C40 Large Cities Climate Summit, Toronto's mayor, David Miller,
announced that his city would take advantage of a new tool to measure
and reduce Toronto's greenhouse gas emissions.
